A Letter From Tawana
I have to admit, the first day of high school was nerve-wracking! I was so used to my tiny wonderland at CityKidz, but looking back on the past few weeks, I’ve quite enjoyed high school. There were quite a few surprises during those weeks, one of them including orientation. The Grade 12’s made us do the silliest things like wear Alice band ears, name tags and draw whiskers and a mane on our faces. We also had to stick to wall’s and spin around in circles holding up Simba chips packets that we were instructed to carry around everywhere!
I enjoy all my lessons, making new friends and joining cheerleading. I really enjoy cheerlieading, not only because of their very cute uniforms but because I am part of one big, happy “cheer” family. One of the things that really blew my mind was the coffee shop. That meant that I got to sit in the library, drink my cup of coffee and do my online assessment. I almost fainted with joy when I saw all the books in the library. I went for my first mass, swimming gala and swimming trials too – they were extraordinary. I loved every moment of the past weeks.
It’s quite a huge change for me, besides the uniform of course. I’ve never gone to a school with three terms and so many sports teams to choose from. I am interested in tennis but I play terribly. I have also joined the La Sallian Youth Group. I’m happy to say that I have got more than one loving family – I am also part of the Flight Centre Family, the De La Salle Family, the La Sallian Family and the Cheer Family.
Zethu was deputy head girl at Citykidz School last year. She is fairly reserved, but friendly and always well mannered and polite. She lives with her Mom and has two older siblings. She enjoys swimming , netball, drama and choir and would like to be an air traffic controller one day. She is strong academically and maintains at 75%+ average.
A Letter From Zethu
For the past weeks that I have been in High School I expected a lot of complicated subjects, bigger responsibilities and difficult homework but everything was quite the opposite from the expected.
I have experienced a lot of sacrificing time for extra lessons in the morning and extra murals after school but I am proud to say I have tried to manage everything. High School is way different from primary, many things have changed. We are getting used to everything though, including the environment. I am so happy to be at De La Salle Holy Cross College, especially because of all the teachers, students and my friends.
In my class, I am bonded with crazy things but with all those fun moments when it is time to learn everyone is enthusiastic and that is courageous. I look forward to all the years still to come with these people around me. I am very grateful to be at De La Salle.
Sihle was previously at Cliffview Primary, and was a prefect in his Grade 7 year. Sihle is friendly and outgoing, and has a wonderfully positive outlook on life. His Mom is a domestic worker, and his long term goal is to be in a position to help his mom financially. Sihle plays soccer and cricket, and has won merit awards for drama. Sihle attended a cricket clinic at the school and was picked to play in the first match of the season.
A Letter From Sihle
School has been great so far. I have good friends that look after me. The teachers are nice at the school. My favorite subject is History because we learn about the past and see things from their point of view and that we get to eat in class!! My marks have dropped a little but I have to keep working. I’m doing quite well in cricket – it’s been such an amazing season so far. The coaches tell me that I have a talent for cricket but my heart will always be in soccer. I love playing sport but I can’t play sport all the time – I have to focus on school. I seem to know every matric – my favorite matrics are Philani and Stephen because they make me laugh all the time and if I am sad, I go to them and they make me laugh. I am very thankful to Liam’s mom who takes me home when I have cricket or don’t have a lift home.
